Fehu: Cattle. moveable weath, abundance, new acquisitions, good fortune.

Fehu: Devotion to the Sacred Self and Sacred Duty

June 28, 2025 by Abby Palmer in Runes, Ritual, Self Care, Words of Wisdom

June 29 – July 14 marks the beginning of the Runic calendar, starting with Fehu, the first rune. Fehu is associated with cattle, wealth, prosperity, and creative fire. It reminds us that our resources—material, energetic, and spiritual—must be tended with care and intention.

This is the perfect time to begin or renew a devotional practice with the runes as it’s the beginning of the Runic Calendar.

Fehu is not just about money or possessions; it’s about what you cultivate, steward, and share. It’s the power of tending to your life force so it can overflow into your community.

What Fehu Teaches Us

Fehu is the sacred energy of growth, manifestation, and responsibility. In a healthy state, it brings abundance, fertility, and creativity. But abundance isn't passive—it’s not just a wish or a lucky break. It’s a daily commitment to water what we’ve planted and to stay in relationship with what we value most—including ourselves.

In the bright light of summer, we can see clearly how we’ve been using our resources—and how we might need to change. This season offers us the fire to take action, the fuel to build something meaningful.

Sacred Self, Sacred Duty

At the heart of Fehu is a call to reconnect with your Sacred Self—the part of you that knows why you're here and what is uniquely yours to do. Your Sacred Duty flows from this relationship.

But before you can fulfill your sacred duty, you must create the container to hold it.

  1. Tend the mundane. Get your basic needs and daily affairs in order. It’s hard to rise into purpose if you’re bogged down by the unfinished. These tasks are sacred, too.

  2. Court your Sacred Self. Create for it. Sing to it. Write for it. Leave it offerings. Speak to it like you would a beloved. Show up for it daily.

  3. Listen to what it needs. More sleep? More support? A creative outlet? Time in nature? Fehu asks: what do you need to thrive?

When you tend yourself as sacred ground, you create a ripple that nourishes the collective.

Fehu Ritual Ideas

  • Clean your space with intention.

  • Light a green or gold candle and meditate on your Sacred Self.

  • Make a list of your current resources (money, energy, time, skills) and how you are stewarding them.

  • Plant something or tend your garden while saying your affirmation out loud.

Affirmations

  • I am the sacred ground from which abundance grows.

  • I am enough. My daily care is devotion.

  • I tend to my life with love, and prosperity flows.

  • I honor my sacred duty and trust the path of my Sacred Self.

  • What I water, grows. I am a good steward of my energy.

Journal Prompts

  1. What are my current resources, and how am I using them?

  2. What mundane tasks have I been avoiding that are quietly draining my energy?

  3. What does my Sacred Self want from me right now?

  4. What does prosperity mean to me—beyond money?

  5. What is my Sacred Duty? If I don’t know, how might I listen for it?

  6. Where do I feel Fehu’s energy in my body? What does it ask of me?

Closing Blessing

Fehu reminds us: You are the wealth. Your attention, energy, and time are sacred currencies. In this season of light, let your devotion illuminate your path and empower your service—not just for yourself, but for all you touch.
